ZINES & ARTIST BOOKS INTRO

ZINES

I have always loved to make small books and zines and I have made them for as long as I can remember. I like the rough handmade aesthetics of zines. My poems or essay writing often find their way into a zine especially if I want to illustrate my writings. Sometimes my zines are part of a thematic study or they serve as a media for trying out different ideas.

Several of my zines are represented in libraries and museums worldwide such as: Archiv der Jugendkulturen and Schikkimikki Zinedistro & Library in Berlin, The Archive of CPH Zine Festival, Copenhagen, Brooklyn Library in New York and Klingspor Museum in Offenbach am Main.

Some of my zines have also been exhibited in Vienna, Berlin and New York.

Zine creation, the making of zines.

The making…

SEVEN BLADE a zine by Asta D. from the 1980s.

An early zine from the 1980s

The generation of the 80s, I am told, are only useful in case of war. We, who are the children of doom - we have already mental-dropped the atom bomb and the war-schizophrenia has eroded every sensitive soul of the city. Souls who did not succeed in becoming a postmodernist in due time..

Fold out SEVEN BLADE - and cut a wound.”

ARTIST BOOKS

Artists’ books, art books, book art – the debate of what to call books that artists do as an art form continues. In the meantime, we make books! I often use old cardboard books for children because the thickness of the pages is suitable for collage with various materials. Other times I make the book myself out of paper and wood and then bind them with a thick thread.
