ABOUT ASTA D.
Asta D. is a Danish performing artist, writer, visual artist and archaeologist. In recent years she has focused on voice performing using sound poetry combined with her poems and writings, usually in collaboration with musicians and sound artists. Asta D. also has several years of experience as an actress, butoh dancer and occasionally as a theater director.
Her visual art works include video films, photographs, collage, zine and artist books.
Her work is characterized by a poetic touch often added humor and operates in the borderland between personal history and archaeological studies of humans and our way of behaving. The concept of HOME and the concept of TIME are often repeated in her work and represented in different art forms. Her various artworks has in recent years also involved NATURE with a focus on the botanical realm.
Her artistic methods involve improvisational practices as well as preparatory studies defined by each project.
Asta D. is trained as stage performer (actress, performer, butoh dancer) at the international School of Stage Arts by the performance theatre group, Cantabile 2. She also became part of the teaching staff at the school for some years. In addition, she holds a master’s degree in Near Eastern Archaeology from the University of Copenhagen.

In the meanwhile feel free to do the exercise from my personal training program
I write, I do vocal and sound poetry performances, happenings, visual art, zines and artist books. Mostly. Sometimes I do other things.
I like to get inspired by the poetry of incompleteness and sometimes continue the story perhaps in another media, perhaps years later. I like to combine and transform things. To me, everything is naturally and organically connected.
Occasionally I teach voice and sound poetry (everything but singing!) and improvisation for stage performers. Solo lessons or workshop. More info. on website soon. Feel free to contact me to learn more about this.
I want to inspire people to find their own way without being dependent on dominant discourses
I want people to be aware of the controlling power from institutions in terms of marketing strategies, profit and defined measurements of success that dominate the art world in a capitalist society. I hope to inspire people to be a poetic artist of their own life. DIY!

Deconstruct
I wrote the declaration above somewhere in the 1980s
It involves the statement of Walter Benjamin “Make room” from his article “The Deconstructive Character” which together with the DIY approach was very much in vogue at the time. One must deconstruct existing discourses and expectations in order to make room for one's own creations. I combine this approach with the alienation effect (Verfremdung) of Bertolt Brecht.
Any artistic performance is not solely a romantic and emotional act. It is also important to analyze the artistic practice in relation to the socio-economic situation of the artist and the society she lives in.
